This is a new category on this site, and it exists because I’m done pretending.
I’m done pretending that every idea deserves the same amount of respect simply because someone has it. I’m done pretending that misinformation is just “another viewpoint.” I’m done pretending that endlessly cushioning obvious truths in polite language somehow makes us more thoughtful, more open-minded, or more evolved.
It doesn’t.
What it’s actually done is create a culture where nonsense is allowed to stand shoulder to shoulder with reality, and anyone who points that out is expected to apologize for being “too harsh.” Somewhere along the way, clarity became rudeness, and confidence became arrogance. I’m not interested in playing that game anymore.
That’s what I’m Done Pretending is for.
This category exists for moments when patience runs out. When pretending neutrality would be dishonest. When saying “well, everyone has their opinion” actively makes things worse. These posts won’t try to balance things that aren’t balanced. They won’t perform fake humility in the face of obvious bullshit. And they won’t waste time explaining the basics to people who have already decided not to listen.
That doesn’t mean every post here will be angry — but it does mean they’ll be direct. Sometimes that will come across as frustration. Sometimes as disbelief. Sometimes as flat-out refusal to entertain an argument that shouldn’t still be happening.
This site has always been about context, curiosity, and thinking things through. That’s not changing. What is changing is the willingness to pretend that endless patience is a virtue when it’s clearly not. There are times when being honest is more important than being nice, and this category exists to give that honesty a home.
Topics here will range widely. Music. Technology. Media. Conspiracy thinking. Cultural habits that refuse to die. The slow erosion of critical thinking. The places where we keep lowering the bar and calling it empathy. The connective tissue isn’t subject matter — it’s tone and intent.
This isn’t about convincing everyone. It’s about saying the thing clearly and standing behind it. Agreement isn’t required. Discomfort is not a failure. And pretending is no longer the goal.
If you’ve ever found yourself reading something and thinking, “Why are we still pretending this is complicated?” — that’s probably where these posts will land.
This post exists to mark the beginning of that shift.
The first official entry in the I’m Done Pretending category should be live by the time you read this.
Consider this the warning label.
